I asked AI: to name the riskiest types of businesses. I won’t quote someone else’s thoughts to avoid violating copyright, but I’ll summarize and categorize the answer. In general, the criteria for danger can be divided into three categories:
  • The need for resources and launch timelines,
  • The presence of competition,
  • The volatility and unpredictability of people’s tastes.
According to this classification, the most dangerous types of activities are engaging in scientific research and innovation development. Even at the initial stage, you can’t predict how much time it will take and, consequently, when you will achieve the desired product.
The next two points are directly related to human activities: this list begins with restaurants, followed by shops, entertainment, and fashion.
Separately stand the oil and gas industry and financial services, as they also depend on geopolitical and legal factors.
In general, it may sound banal, but it turns out that living is very risky.
Where does trading fit into this list, and is it dangerous to engage in it? After thinking a bit, I would say that engaging in trading is relatively safe. The volatility of the sectors above lies in the fact that they all compete for the same consumer.
But trading, in terms of speculation, is unique: it doesn’t need to look for a buyer if you are working with a liquid instrument. The problem here is different. I want to separate two concepts: trading and learning trading. So, trading is safer than, say, owning a restaurant. However, learning trading is akin to engaging in scientific research. You can’t imagine the costs or the time that will be invested in it, despite the large number of schools and various qualification institutes.
Therefore, I’ll say this: working as a speculator is relatively safe, but the time and resources you need to invest are uncertain. On the other hand, you might have clear figures regarding the launch of a specific product, and there you become completely dependent on the volatile structure of the consumer.
The choice, as always, is yours.
Sincerely.
